They have all these discount codes that you can use to buy your tickets at a way cheaper price. Top ticket price these days is over $100, and the discounts usually get you tix for $50-70.

They are OK. The sound is better down the middle. You can see very well from the side stalls, but the sound isn't as good.

? Was I Wrong...?

i recently bought myself a ticket to an opera ("Lucia di Lammermoor"), and i am intending to go by myself, it's something i want to enjoy as a "me time" sort of thing. i have a friend that loves going to operas, symphonies, museums, etc., just like me. i didn't tell her i'd bought a ticket, and didn't invite her, because, like i said before, i want to go by myself. but she found out i was going and is a little bummed that i didn't invite her. as a friend, was i wrong not to invite her to come with me? because i feel a little bad about it, but i'd really like to go by myself.

? Was I Wrong...?concerts

yep

? Was I Wrong...?headache opera theater

i totally agree with YOU. sometimes you just don't want tag alongs.
no, you weren't wrong
If you wanted to go by yourself, that is perfectly fine and you are in no obligation to take someone with you. I would just explain to her you wanted to go alone and enjoy it on a personal level. No hard feelings. I am sure she will understand. Of course, it would be natural for her to feel a little down about it, but she will get over it if she is a true friend.
She cant expect you to invite her to everything!! You have every right to go by your self. If she wants to go bad enough, she can get her own ticket. Dont let her make you feel bad!
just tell her you'd like a little alone time, and the fact you didnt buy her a ticket wasnt a comment con her character.

tell her basically you think shes a wonderful person, espesh as she shares ur interest in this stuff, but you feel you need to spend time alone sometimes, and you feel you cvan do this best by going to the opera.

annabel xx

ps:good luck
no, and you shouldn't feel bad about it. She can get her own ticket if she wants to go badly enough.
you werent wrong at all.

did you try explaining to her you wanted "me time"?

everyone needs time alone.

people think im crazy because sometimes i like to eat dinner at a resturant alone, but i need "me time" as well.

im sure your friend will understand if you explained it to her and just set a date for another day to see it with her : )

just be careful with your wording because you dont want to come off as avoiding her or you not wanting to hang out with her.
Not at all. If she's upset, just explain that you wanted time to yourself. Then the next time you want to go to an opera, invite her.
she should understand that u want to enjoy the opera by urself , and tel her niceley that next time ull invite her !
Shame on you!!!!!
u are not wrong

everyone deserves time to themselves and u shouldn't feel guilty
"Me" time is always good. But explain to her that you want to go by yourself and that maybe the next time, you will invite her to go too.
Unfortunately, if she's not the "alone" type of person, she won't understand. I think she'd feel bad, but you shouldn't be. Everyone should enjoy their alone time once in awhile.

I'd like to go to the movies alone sometime, but I haven't had the chance to.
Nope, everyone needs me time. Invite her to the next one you go to and explain why she wasnt invited to this one
ur soooo not wrong. and for a friend, she should understand. Simpy say something like this= I;m really sorry I didn't invite you. I really wanted to since ur my good friend and u love operas just like me. Yet I really wanted some free time. I'm sorry. I hope you understand but I didn;t mean it to go like this. I really wanted free time to myself since I get none of that. I'm sorry. I really hope you understand/..

well say SOMETHING similar to that.
No it's not wrong of you to want some alone time. You friend should understand this and respect your need to have some alone time. It's just she enjoys you and likes to spend time with you and she feels she is not needed. Reassure her that she is an important part of your life and that you enjoy being with her, but we all need some personal space. She should understand and probably feels bad for causing a tiff between you.
no your not wrong....you should just tell her that you want alone time and that you girls can go to another opera another time or something....she should understand...
It depends on how you look at it. But if you wanted to be alone that's totally normally.
HELL NO. You did her a favor!
Alone time is good, don't worry about it. Invite her to go do something some other time.
tell her you just wanted to go by yourself... you were right its totally fine to do stuff for you!
If you bought a ticket for your friend then you would have to get one for everyone else. You are not wrong.
No you were not wrong. Alone time is healthy. Invite her to do something another time. A real friend will understand and get over it.
You should invite her but if she says No then don't beg her. Just say I'm going do you wanna go...
I don't think you were wrong - I like doing certain things on my own - just tell her why.
ur fine, just tell her "Hey, I have alot on my mind, I just really wanna go alone.............Maybe we can hook up this weekend (or next depending on ur plans) And we can have some us time, because, this is my me time, not us time.........sorry"
not wrong, maybe you should explain it to her. If she's truly a fan, she'll appreciate you wanting to experience it yourself.
dead wrong, idiot! AS USUAL!!

Night out in london?

I am going to london at the end of the month to see phantom of the opera.Hotel, theatre tickets and train tickets are paid for,but how much money do you reckon i will need to take for a meal and a few drinks after the show and taxis?

Night out in london?playhouse

If you figure on 锟?0-锟?5 per taxi ride, plus 锟? per drink (unless you are drinking really expensive cocktails in a thoroughly pretentious bar) you can probably budget 锟?5 for dinner per person including 1/2 a bottle of wine... (do yourself a favour and sign up to www.toptable.co.uk its free to join and you might well get a deal on a half price meal)

All told I'd budget between 锟?00 and 锟?50 to take with you. Have a great time....I miss living in London.

Night out in london?plays opera theater

very variable, Meal cost can vary hugely depending on where you plan to eat... look at spending :

Mcdonalds 锟?.00

Steakhouse $15.00

restaurant 锟?0.00+ (upper limit is too variable, depending on the quality of the restaurant)

drinks.... could run to 锟?.00 to 锟?.00 per Pint of beer or glass of wine...

Taxi depends on station you are using... $10 to 锟?0 maybe

very difficult to answer as it depends on the quality of restaurant and station travelled from.
A decent dinner in a nice restaurant with drinks in a few bars after will cost round about 锟?00 per person minimum. Stay away from the tourist traps in the west end, the Covent Garden, Leicester Square area are particularly expensive and particularly crap. In my opinion the best night out in London now is in the Hoxton, Shoreditch, Brick Lane area. You'll find loads of great bars and clubs round there, while they are expensive compared to the rest of the country they are not as expensive as the crap you will find in the west end.
If you don't go crazy:

Meal - 锟?5 per person

Drinks - base it on 锟? per drink

Taxis - depends where to/from. Only use the black cabs as they are licensed and know he roads.
Depends how many a "few drinks" are. London prices are around 锟? - 锟?.50 each in that area, with a meal being around 锟?0 - 锟?5 per head so you're looking at around 锟?0 per head really. Taxis in London are a right rip off, especially the Black Cabs. Expensive but lovely.
Realistically London is well expensive- think nothing of spending at least 锟?00
depends on what type of meal and how many drinks, but i would say about 50 pounds per person if you want relatively good stuff

Broadway show & suggested donation for museum entry fees?

Hi Dear all,

I plan to go to the theatre 1 day before the show to buy tickets for Phantom of the Opera, would the cheapest tickets worth it or shall i go for the most expensive one? should i buy from internet or go there buy personally?

For the museum ticket price, is it a norm to pay for the suggested price , or would it be very embarrased to pay less than the suggested price.

Thanks for advices.

Broadway show %26amp; suggested donation for museum entry fees?performing arts

I don't know if Phantom sells out, but I'd recommend buying tickets in advance. If you want to save some money find out if they have a matinee price.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (and The Cloisters) will accept any amount, including a penny. It's entirely up to you and what you can afford. And of course anything you buy in the gift shop will also go towards the museum. The MET has a bag check which is also convenient if you want to spend time in Central Park, too.

I can't figure out how to transform these sentences into complex sentences. Help?

I have a paragraph here that needs two complex sentences and two compound:

Chapter 2: Mr. Wong arrived home from work with two tickets to the opera show that night, and he wanted his wife to go along with him. She had been doing the laundry and didn鈥檛 know about the opera show. Once she found out that they were going to an opera in two hours she hurriedly dashed to the bedroom to get ready. Moments later, out she came and then they left for the opera. Once at the opera he and his wife found two seats in the front row. Mr. Wong was admiring the features of one of the actresses. Then he started to lust after this woman, and he wanted her for himself. Mr. Wong asked his wife how she felt, she liked the woman, so they agreed to she how the two got along was mutual. Later, he decided to introduce his self to her and she agreed to be his second wife. First he said he would only marry her if his first wife agreed so they tried living together. With that, he set out to see if his plan worked.

I can't figure out how to transform these sentences into complex sentences. Help?symphony

Find two sentences that are closely related in topic and join them with a conjunction (and but, or, for, nor, yet, so) - that's a compound sentence.

Start a sentence with a group of words that tell when or where the sentence is happening (followed by a comma) and you'll have a complex sentence - something like "After I went home," then follow with the original sentence. - That's a complex sentence.

He nearly forgot.?

A man and wife are eating breakfast, just before he goes out to work.

"I'll bet you don't know what day it is today!" she says to him.

With a guilty start he responds, "Well of course I do, did you really think I could forget!" and with feigned hurt he storms off to work.

At 10am there is a knock at the door and she answers it to find a delivery man bearing the biggest bunch of red roses she had ever seen in her life.

At 12 oclock the door goes again, and this time it is a gigantic box of her favourite luxury chocolates all tied in a satin bow. At three o'clock a van arrives from the most expensive boutique in the area and delivers the most sumptious new dress she had ever seen. Attached is a card which reads, "Of course I didn't forget darling, please find attached tickets to the Opera, I know you love it."

Shocked to the core she can't wait for her husband to come in.

"Oh George, first came the roses, then the chocolates, then that gorgeous dress, And darling, how sweet you got those tickets. I know you HATE the opera."

She gives a little sigh, then smiles sweetly

Buses to Lake Garda from Verona?

Hi, we are staying in Bardolino in August and have tickets to the opera in Verona. Will it be possible to get a bus back to Bardolino after the opera has finished, or do the buses stop running quite early? We will have a car, but thought it might be easier just to hop on the bus. Any advice would be great!

Buses to Lake Garda from Verona?comedy show

Well, yes but it depends on the day of the week, During the week the blue suburban buses, for lack of a better description, do run quite late into the evening back to Verona. However on Saturday and especially Sunday I wouldn't risk it after 7PM Also, if you just miss a bus to Verona from Lake Garda I have sometimes found it is occasionally faster to use the bus in the western direction towards Brescia to the FS train station and ride the train back to Verona Porta Nouva Station. Either way the buses are safe and a good overall bet! They do keep easy to read schedules at the terminal adjacent to the Verona Train station.

The Democrat candidates were asked during the debate, what they would do?

So we just leave Iraq, Iran takes over and we stand guard at the border checking ID Cards..How can anyone think the Democratic party has a solution on anything that ails the USA when all they do, is have a tums approach to a Major Ulcer problem?

The Democrat candidates were asked during the debate, what they would do?say yes

Gopanic your and Idiot,

As a former soldier who has been deployed all over the world and been to both Afgan and Iraq, I agree 100%. It would also be near impossible to re-Deploy all that equipmennt and troops in 100 Days, that's coming from someone with Military experiance

AS former Military what do I know right? but I am sure that Osama and the boys Attepted to blow up the world Center in 93, I do know They Killed 19 Airman and wounded 300 Airman in 96 at Khobar Towers, I do know, That Osama and the Boys Blew up 2 U.S. Embassy's in Africa in 98, I do know that Osama and the boys Blow a Hole in the U.S..S Cole in 2000. I do know that 3,000 Americans were killed by Osama and the Boys on 9-11, So If we leave and they win, and they gain strengh and more followers, there gonna come fast and hard against us, so if people want to live in a left wing nut world where everything is America's Fault, someday they may realize one morning were fighting these Terrorists for our WAY OF LIFE at least Bush is doing something about it!!!!!!! Heck CLINTON did nothing about it, expect LIE ABOUT HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH A GIRL IN WOULDN'T HAVE TOUCHED IN HIGH SCHOOL, and spent more time worrying about LYING ABOUT scandals like Whitewater, PREJURE, THAN MAYBE he would have taken Bin Laden into custody in 98 when the Sudan was willing to hand him over.

The Democrat candidates were asked during the debate, what they would do?palace theatre opera theater

It probably depends on whether or not you're talking about "The Marriage of Figaro" or "Nixon in China"
So, leaving Iraq is giving up on the war? Let's look at a few facts.

1. The concept of them following us home. They are here already. The evidence is the alleged plot to attack Fort Dix and the alleged plot to blow up JFK airport.

2. Since the election in 2004, we have not raised the terror threat level. Clearly it was motivated by politics. We have stopped at least three attacks since then (the two mentioned above and the plot in Great Britian).

3. Iraq is now a failed state. failed states breed terrorism.

4. Our borders are not secure. We should have our security people at every airport and port in North America. That's how you keep terrorists out of the United States. But we don;t do that.

We pretend we are tough on terror, but we really just go through some motions.
It sends the message that we care enough about the troops and hard working, tax paying citizens to get us out of a bogus war that the corrupt government got us into in the first place.
I agree, they have mastered the art of criticism, but how easy it is to criticize when you don't have a better solution.
No we can't be racist and "card" the illegals as they cross. The radical Jihadist will be glad to see the US leave.

I'm sure they will be in the US not long after they see the white flag.
You have to understand that the consequences outlined above are those held in the beliefs of the republican parties and their supporters. Its easier to think that if we pull out we are giving up but dozens of analysts with the same or better qualifications as the Bush administration's believe that pulling out is the best way to go. I know this is not what you want to believe, but we are not fighting a war on terror, we are occupying a country that does not want us. Even Republican Ron Paul said, we should at least listen to why the radicals are telling us they are attacking us, because we go over there and put bases on their land for decades. Besides, al-Qaeda were not the ones responsible for starting the war on "terrorism" it was the Taliban, but thats besides the point. How would you respond if other countries came to america, stationed troops and bases to try to fix us? If we retaliate in self defense, is that aggression? Does it merit sending more soldiers in? Ponder that and get back to me if you want.
Well said.
There is no way we're going to bring the troops home in the first 100 days regardless of what they say.

Our party says crap like that all the time to get into office and then they forget what they promised.
Here is the one thing that the democrats stand for that this administration has refused to even consider. CHANGE. As much as Bush will never admit it, because of his ridiculous need to just continue to stick to his same reasoning, the public is smarter than he thinks. We know that everything he is doing in Iraq is just more versions of the same thing. Oh, we want chage, ok, we'll send more people. Okay, great, but what's the new strategy? Ummm, strategy? I sent more people, doesn't that count? Uhh, not really, you just sent more people to be sitting ducks in a civil war.

As a previous poster said. Iraq is a failed state that breeds terrorism. The one thing that is uniting a gigantic majority of the people there is that they do not want the US there. The only person who really wants us there is the current Iraqi President so that he won't actually have to take responsibility for anything going wrong with his country. While we're there, he can just say it's Bush's fault. We are not creating stability, as one poster suggests. We're causing the chaos there by our sheer prescence. Bush wants us there for one reason, the ability to further his own policies. Now since he's using other people's lives to futher his own agenda, is that better than brining our soldiers home from a war that we had no business starting in the first place?

As far as doing it in the first 100 days, I think that might be a stretch, but well withing the first full year of office, I think the troops do need to be gotten out of the country and back home. They are fighting for something that was presented as patriotic and for our own protection, but has been shown for a lie. Does that make me unamerican to not want the troops in danger in a place a lie placed them? If it does, then I'm unamerican, and so it at least 72% of the country. The major ulcer you refer to is Bush.
early withdrawl from iraq would lead to harsher sectarian violence and yet another oppressive sectular regime like the one they had before. if cant be done in 100 days. and iran wont **** with them theyll wait until one group assumes power then ally with them on the basis of hatered for democracy. though i dont think we should have gone over there in the first place we are there now and have to finish. we cant win the war on terrorism just like we cant win the war on drugs or poverty or any other fictionl wars that we dont have a battlefield to fight on or soldiers to fight. the govt can only devote so much time effort and money into these type things and we dont have that right now nor will we ever. the only thing we can do is keep our homeland safe and use the defense budget to fund defense and not militarism.
I do not agree with the motives for starting the war, but I believe that now that we are there, we might as well finish the job. If we end up with another Vietnam, I think that would only boost the radicals' morale.
Our troops are policing a civil war right now. They're targets - like sitting ducks. You want that to remain the same then?
No, it means that we will finally face the fact that our troops are stuck in the middle of another country's civil war that has been going on for many centuries and may go on for, who knows how many more centuries!

.
We went to Iraq to fight terrorism ?

Are you an idiot ?

Are you capable of independent thought ? You are your sheep friends seem to all repeat the exact same lies...word for word. Rush must be proud.

We went there for oil...idiot

Didn't you notice that all 4,000 reasons told for our being in Iraq have all been exposed as LIES

What a waste of space between your ears
Thank goodness! I was beginning to think I was the only one who had noticed this...
Totally agree. Although I do not believe the war in Iraq was handled well AT ALL, we have worked our way into a situation where if we leave Iraq, the people in that country will be utterly slaughtered and mass civil war will break out. At this point, we are the only thing keeping them stable in the slightest. The flip side of this is that progress has been incredibly slow, as we struggle to simply hold on to a country that is overwrought with years of hate, tension, and violence that is just now boiling over.
I agree with you 100 percent. When it comes down do it they don't really know where they stand.
The terrorists and their cells would just follow us home.
Lewis black put it best Democrats have no Idea and republicans have very bad Ideas.

It was my suggestion we go out in the first place. She left a message on my mobile to say she'd won 2 tickets to an opera. It's too far from where I live, even though I've been there before (but got a lift home from someone at the time). I texted her "thanks, but I don't want to travel on my own that late at night back home". I have not heard from her since. I can't understand what's so wrong with what I texted - I was honest.

I've been to Phantom.

Once this strike thing gets resolved....you will WANT to get the orchestra seats. Somewhere in the first 10 rows at the VERY center.

I won't give the storyline away but TRUST ME....you will want to be seated in that area! :) VERY COOL!

Tony S is absolutely right!

i've also been to Phantom and you can trust his recommendation!
one third of the way back from the stage in the center of the theater is best acoustically. usually the center of the 8th row. you can sit far enough away that you need binoculars, called "opera glasses".
Right now, lets hope for a show!!!!

My parents silver anniversary is coming up, and I am going to be in London at the time unfortunately. I came into quite a bit of money lately without them knowing, and I want to buy them a fairly expensive present (tickets to a fabulous opera that they really want to see).

The trouble is that I am using a debit card and they can see exactly what I am spending, what I'm spending it on, and where I am spending it.

How to I spend money without them knowing how much I am spending, what I am buying, and where I am when I buy it?

They have been wanting to see it for years and they are sharp people, so if they see the charge, they will know.

Please help me!
