This is a great itinerary. The hotel is nice - it's only a few blocks from Grand Central Station. While you're in the lower Manhattan area, hope they go to the World Financial Center - get ice cream at Custard Beach - they have incredible flavors - my favorites are lemon and creme brulee. They change flavors every day. I always tell visitors to try New York pizza, but, if you've been to Regina's in Boston, don't bother. Boston is the only place outside of Italy that has better pizza than New York. At the Metropolitan Museum, make sure to see the Gubbio Studio. It's a fifteenth century library in a duke's palace. As you walk into this room, you see cabinets, closets, bookcases filled with books, musical instruments, scientific instruments, all made of little pieces of inlaid wood. You are not going to believe it when you get close - it's flat! This should take your breath away - I can't describe it. And the museum hardly advertises it. It's on the first floor, north of the medieval sculpture court.

Next favorite are the weapons and armor:

If you're doing souvenir shopping, save it for Chinatown - great prices on little stocking stuffer kinds of things.

Have a great time, and since you can get here for only $15, come back again.

It definitely seems worth it for 500. Hope you enjoy the trip.
One night in a cheap hotel costs that much.
You have an extremely good deal. The ferry to Ellis Island also stops at the Statue of Liberty, and you can get off and explore each, taking a later boat onward. The Roosevelt is a very fine, fancy hotel that Teddy Roosevelt would be proud to have had named for him. I hope your group plans to have lunch in Chinatown--I would recommend Wo Hop on Mott Street. You are certainly getting around and seeing many things in the short time you are here. I'm willing to bet everyone will be so exhausted that all sleep on the trip back to Quincy.
This is a pretty good deal--as most school trips are. You don't say how many people they're cramming into a hotel room, but you could easily spend $200 per person for two nights even in a triple of quad. The cost of the bus ride is almost certainly more than $15, particularly since you'll be paying the cost of a full-time driver who will accompany you around the city, chaperons, and parking in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Admissions are about $10 per site, and the "Phantom" ticket is probably $50 even at a bulk rate (and could easily be $75). A full day guided sightseeing tour would be no less than $100 per person (and could approach $200), and the cost of your included meals will easily make up the rest of your $500 fee.
That's a very good place. I hope you enjoy yourself. All I got when I was in 8th grade was a stupid visit to Chattanooga and Springfield.
You have no clue of how much that is worth.... Some people around the world will never get a chance to see some of those places. I live in the Manhatten Area so ive seen all of these places. The Museum of Natural History is one always worth seeing as for The Phantom of the Opera im not sure if you would like it or not. It depends on what kind of plays you like but yes it would be incredibly worth it.
that sounds like a great trip! and more than worth your money new york is an expensive place to visit!
you would be a fool not to go.. have a good time...
