Italy Vacations?

I'll be in Italy with 2 friends on March 22 thru the 31...

How's the weather around those days?

We'll be in most parts of Italy in a tour (Milan, Verona, Padua, Venice, Florence, Assisi, Rome, Naples, Capri, Pisa, Nice)...

but we'll only have day off by ourselves in Milan, Florence, Rome.. what should we definitely have too see in these last 3 cities?

I wish I can go to an opera in Milan, but don't know how difficult it is to get tickets that are not too expensive...

I went to Italy this time last year, and it was pretty cold. My guide said that the weather was unusual, though. Take a rainproof jacket and wear layers, just in case. It can be very windy in Capri, so dress warmly; it was freezing when I went, but still very nice. I have to mention this, but if you like perfumes, make sure you check out the perfumes they make on Capri. They are very nice, and not expensive, and they aren't made anywhere else.

I didn't go to Milan, but I did go to Florence and Rome.

In Florence, make sure you go to the Accademia. That's where Michaelangelo's David is. you might have to wait a long time to get in, but I guarantee that it is worth the wait. Also check out Il Duomo. It's a cathedral, but there are stairs that you can climb (432 of them) to get to the top. It's a great view, and fun to climb. Don't go if you are claustrophobic (the stairways are very narrow) or afraid of heights. Be careful if you have asthma, because the climb might bring on an attack. Piazza della Sighoria (sp?) is a great central location to start from, and there are some beautiful statues throughout the square, as well as some great restaurants. Santa Croce church is also a good stop; it's a beautiful church. Finally, check out the leather stores. Florence is famous for its leather, but make sure you go to a reputable seller. The one I went to is called Leonardo Leather Works, and they have fairly good prices. They can also tell you about the scams the street vendors have.

In Rome, make sure you go to the Colosseum (of course!), and Forum Romanum. That's where Julius Caesar was assasinated, and you can go right up to the stop where he last stood. Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon are must-sees too. If you have the time, go to Vatican City, which is really close to Rome. You can wander through the Vatican Museum, see St. Peter's Cathedral, and the Sistine Chapel.

I hope this helps, and enjoy your trip!

Unfortunately you will not have enough time to visit a lot of things. I hope you are in shape... You will be doing a lot of walking!!!

Ciao

Todd
They have already given you perfect hints on where to go. It is very difficult to get tickets for the Scala: You can get cheap tickets but you ought to que up all day to get them

In Milan buy the daily ticket for Subway, 3 euro and you can go everywhere on buses, trams and subway for 24 hours

By the way, Nice is not in Italy....;-))
The weather really varies where you go. It will still be cold up north, closer to the mountains. Nice down by Capri, Naples, etc.

In Milan be sure to check out the cathedral... in Florence def. the Accademia to see David and other works... and in Rome EVERYTHING! a lot is free... but be sure to visit the Vatican Museums (lines can get really long... get there early!) to see the Sistine Chapel (spend time in the rooms before the chapel, great works) .... then go to the Forum, and a must see art gallery is the Borgese in Rome... I'm jealous you're going! ... I spent a total of one year studying there.
